I had such wonderful news to share today,

when I went down to the woods to play.

Last night as I sat upon daddy’s knee,

he told me he was turning thirty three.

I ran through the meadow and picked some wild grass,

the lake was so clear it looked like glass.

I became tired and stopped for a drink.

Where could the bubble dragons be – I needed to think!

I sat right down against the tree,

the bark was rough it tickled me!

I sat there looking up into the sky,

That’s when I saw a bubble go floating by.

Just then a bubble popped against my cheek,

I got such a fright I started to shriek.

When I stopped shrieking, I looked around,

bubbles were popping all over the ground.

I laughed out loud and heard them laugh too.

Bubble dragons I called; I have such good news for you!

Today is daddy’s birthday, he is thirty-three.

Tonight is his party under the oak tree.

Mommy is busy right now she is baking a cake.

She still has so many plans to make.

Granny is coming, Granddad too!

I really do love birthday parties – don’t you?

The day went slowly, we were all so excited,

the bubble dragons were happy because they were invited.

No one could see them, they would have to hide,

until all the adults went back inside.

Soon everyone arrived, it was time to begin,

when I saw daddy I began to grin.

The bubble dragons flew up into the tree,

they giggled and chattered – they were so excited you see!

They watched the party from the old oak tree,

every now and then they waved to me.

As darkness fell and day turned to night,

what I saw next made me gulp with fright.

The moon started rising, it was not really bright,

it did not light up the garden just like a light!

I could hear the bubble dragons laugh,

now they were playing in the bird bath.

I looked back up and began to moan,

the fright I got made my stomach groan!

Something was wrong, this could not be right,

part of the moon was missing tonight.

I sat there quietly this could not be,

no one else even noticed, only me!

Who ate the moon – where had it gone?

Was most of it still hiding behind the barn?

I was not happy, I felt a little frightened,

I was so worried my chest had tightened!

Granny, granny – come and see.

Someone’s eaten the moon for tea!!

Granny laughed, the bubble dragons too.

I felt really foolish, my astonishment grew.

Granny looked at me and began to smile,

come sit over here on my lap a while.

There is nothing wrong, this is how it should be.

The moon changes its’ shape regularly.

Granny explained all about the moon

and then she promised it would be full again soon.

I began to feel better, I no longer felt mad,

this was the best night I had ever had.

The bubble dragons fluttered over to the gate,

to the spot where I had left their cake.

They ate so much and their stomachs became round.

The bubbles they blew hardly left the ground.

Some bubbles came out in the shape of a cake

while some bubble floated down to the lake

Granddad yawned and said let’s go in,

it is just about time for the show to begin.

As I looked up I saw the bubble dragons fly by,

soon it would be bedtime I thought and began to sigh!

Look said daddy – a shooting star,

it was off in the distance, not too far.

Gee, said mommy – not one, but two!

I smiled to myself what could I do–

I knew it was the bubble dragons – I bet you did too!!
